Ah Lord God! It is You who have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for You. Jeremiah 32:17
Today, as most days recently, I have no concrete solutions. . .for anything. . .for everything.
And what makes matters worse is everyone has an opinion and is an expert. Our technologically advanced information age, has not made it better. It’s made it worse on so many levels.
I don’t know about you, but that’s actually a surprise to me. You see, I’ve always believed that knowledge is power. So, with so much data at our instant disposal, wouldn’t that be enormously helpful? Often the answer seems. . .not so much. Who is actually an expert and who is not?
Please don’t misunderstand. I’m not anti-technology. I love so much about the connectiveness and getting more news in a few minutes online than hours on television. But, then there’s the dark side.
The dark side is that there’s so much fake stuff out there. Even sources we could rely on in the past are generating news so they will get more clicks, more reaction. Unfortunately what it generates is confusion and division. This is not the America I grew up in and I don’t like it.
What in the world does all this have to do with today’s verse?
Everything !
Each component of this season’s difficult days is hard, even impossible. But there is hope. And that hope is God.
He made the heavens where we look for stars & shooting stars. In the heavens, we see the brilliance of the sun and the moon shining it’s light, perhaps causing us to dream or just rest our brains and behold the night sky.
God made the earth – this place we call home. It’s a wondrous place with diverse landscapes and climates. It’s beautiful and complex. God simply spoke it into existence.
Yes, He’s just that powerful. He stretches out His arm and things happen.
So where is our help in the midst of so many impossible things? When it’s all just so very hard living here, who can we turn to? God – nothing is too hard for Him.
Do I know what God will do or how He will handle every aspect of our messy world? No idea. But I’m not God. And that, my friend, is the point.
Logic and reality don’t seem to be working. So we must look at the impossible. This concept reminds me of a scripture in Matthew that supports this view of God.
Matthew 19:26 says, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Since nothing is too hard for God and with Him all things are possible, it sure makes sense that turning to Him for help is more valuable than anything else we could do. I like to quote Christine Caine who says, “Impossible is where God starts.” So true.
If we could fix things ourselves, if we could figure everything out all on our own, there would be no need for God. Right?
So this is for both you and me. Let’s commit ourselves to first – cry out to God, laying our concerns and burdens at His feet. Ask Him for the wisdom to know what we individually should do. Second – rest in His sovereignty. He’s the Author of the play. He knows the end from the beginning. His ways are not our ways & His thoughts are not our thoughts.
May the grace & peace of Christ be with you. . . .with us all.
